The International Student Congress of (bio)Medical Sciences (ISCOMS) is one of the world’s leading (bio)medical congresses in the field of (bio)medical sciences.

Last year, 706 participants from 64 countries attended the 23rd edition of ISCOMS. This year, the 24th edition will take place from the 6th till the 9th of June 2017 in Groningen. During this three-day congress, ISCOMS offers students from all over the world an unique opportunity to present thei research. Besides this, students can take part in interactive workshops and get inspired by lectures presented by a few of the greatest scientists worldwide. For example, Spinoza Prize winner Prof. Mihai G. Netea MD PhD, Noble Laureate Prof. Sir Tim R.T. Hunt PhD and Prof. Ben L. Feringa PhD, the winner of this year’s Nobel Prize in Chemistry for the design and synthesis of molecular machines.

Students can visit the congress both as a presenting and as a non-presenting participant. ISCOMS offers a scientific programme with a pre-course on mastering your research, student presentation sessions (plenary, oral and poster), engaging workshops and an interactive surgical operation. You can also acquire information on working and performing research in Groningen during our networking lunch, where you will be able to integrate with companies interested in recruiting ambitious international students.

Moreover, students can explore their PhD opportunities with our ISCOMS Research Fellowships (IRF). The IRF are a challenging two week programme in which students are expected to actively participate in research at one of the UMCG Research Institutes and gather a great deal of knowledge related to the topic of research. As a student you get the chance to perform research at a leading institute, meet top-researchers and – more importantly – learn about the possibilities of doing a PhD-programme in the Netherlands. There are many foreign students who have been able to start a PhD-programme in the UMCG due to following an IRF. The IRF are available for foreign presenting participants only.

On top of all this, we will feature an exciting social programme, including a formal dinner, the amazing World Wide ISCOMS Night and a Post Congress Tour.
